A mouse model for TMJ arthritis
نویسنده
چکیده
Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD) are characterized by joint degeneration and facial pain. Most often this leads to a significant amount of disability. Histological as well as arthroscopic studies have documented that, at the early stages of the disorders, the tissues of the joint undergo a change resembling osteoarthritis. At very late stages, the joint can become inflamed and the synovitis and bone erosion can resemble an inflammatory arthritis. Unfortunately, at the present time there are no good models that can be used for the analysis of this type of joint destruction in TMJ arthridities. The discussion in this report describes the features and pathology of TMJ disorders and puts forward a potential model that may be amenable for investigation of novel treatments.

The therapeutic effects of silver nanoparticle on the inflammatory disease of the temporomandibular joint
The objective of this study was to exam the therapeutic effects of silver nanoparticle on the inflammatory disease of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Mustard oil was injected to TMJ of the mouse for inducing the arthritis. The mice of negative control were received the Vaseline application and the positive controls were received indomethacin ointment on the preauricular area. The experimenta...
متن کاملImaging of the temporomandibular joint in juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
OBJECTIVE Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is extremely common but frequently asymptomatic. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with contrast remains the gold standard for identifying TMJ arthritis in JIA. A reliable scoring system with published MRI examples of typical acute and chronic TMJ arthritis changes will be invaluable for future...
متن کاملRisk factors for temporomandibular joint arthritis in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence and features of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) among children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), and to identify risk factors for TMJ arthritis. METHODS A retrospective chart review was performed on 187 patients with JIA who underwent a TMJ MRI at Children's Hospital of Alabama between September 2007 and...
متن کاملExperimental Model of Zymosan-Induced Arthritis in the Rat Temporomandibular Joint: Role of Nitric Oxide and Neutrophils
AIMS To establish a new model of zymosan-induced temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis in the rat and to investigate the role of nitric oxide. METHODS Inflammation was induced by an intra-articular injection of zymosan into the left TMJ. Mechanical hypernociception, cell influx, vascular permeability, myeloperoxidase activity, nitrite levels, and histological changes were measured in TMJ la...
متن کاملEffectiveness of dexamethasone iontophoresis for temporomandibular joint involvement in juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
OBJECTIVE Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement is common in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Dexamethasone iontophoresis (DIP) uses low-grade electric currents for transdermal dexamethasone delivery into deeper anatomic structures. The purpose of this study was to assess the safety and effectiveness of DIP for the treatment of TMJ involvement in JIA, and to delineate variables that are...
